UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT SYMPOSIUM

Application

Hosted by the Farquhar Honors College, the Undergraduate Student Symposium is a selective and competitive symposium. Each submission will be evaluated for possible inclusion in the symposium. A different set of criteria will be used to select the winning projects at the symposium.

Directions

Please discuss and review any questions with your faculty sponsor before submitting this application. Your abstract must be reviewed and approved by your faculty sponsor before submitting this application. The title of your project must match the title on this application exactly.

One fully completed application form (below) per project is required, regardless of the number of students involved. If your project has more than one researcher, a lead researcher should be designated and identified as Researcher 1. The lead researcher must also submit the abstract and CITI paperwork (if applicable to your project) at the time of application.

THE TITLE OF YOUR PROJECT, INCLUDING ITS SPELLING, AND ALL PARTICIPANTS' NAMES LISTED ON YOUR APPLICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED FINAL.

Visual display of research; conversation and presentation to small groups

Note: Poster setup is required by 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2018. Complete details regarding presentation and judging of posters will be emailed to researchers prior to the symposium. All posters must remain in the Alvin Sherman Library until 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018, and must be removed at that time by a research participant from your group.

7-10 minute presentation to small group and questions/discussion of a completed research paper

Note: Oral presentations are for complete projects ONLY. The results must be shared.

Students must clearly cite the influences on their work in the film credits and in their written abstracts. If any paradigm or technique has been taken from a specific film, that should be made explicit in both the film credits and in the written abstracts.

Abstract

A one-page (250 words max.) abstract describing the project's topic, purpose, and goal must be submitted (upload below) with this application. Faculty sponsors must review and approve the abstract before submission.

Your abstract must follow the sample abstract template exactly. Your abstract must be a Microsoft Word document with the following file naming convention: ProjectTitle.doc

Application Deadline

Applications must be submitted electronically (including a properly formatted abstract and CITI paperwork, if applicable to your project) by February 9, 2018 at 11:59pm

After submitting this application, you will receive a submission confirmation email. Please review the email to ensure that all information is correct. If you do not receive an email within 24 hours confirming that your application has been received , please email mezquia@nova.edu (You may want to write down this email address now for future reference).

You will be notified via email by March 14, 2018 regarding the acceptance status of your project for inclusion in the symposium. This email will provide additional information and instructions.
